Beautiful Birkenstocks

Birkenstocks have to be the best everyday shoes on this plant. I got my first pair as a birthday present almost two years ago and love them. I have put MANY miles on them including trips to New York, D.C., San Diego (where I did TONS of walking) and running around my college campus. I have also done an AIDS walk in them and even hiked mountains in them. In all honesty they do hurt a bit when you first get them but soon enough they mold to your feet and are crazy comfortable. My mother actually found these on sale and picked them up for me. I couldn't really object as they are pretty cute, perfect for summer, and my old pair are pretty dodgy (I refuse to get rid of them though). I think that Birkenstocks get kind of a bad rap by the people that think of them as either hippie sandals or the clunky man-sandals that your dad likes to wear with socks, but they actually come in cute styles. If I had a million dollars I would totally be sporting the Florida sandal in stone and the Gizeh sandal in antique lace.

P.S. My new pair is the Madrid in emerald isle and my first pair was the Sydney-- which is like the Arizona but with thinner straps.

Sunday Inspiration---Mark Jenkins

Today's inspiration is Mark Jenkins. I love his street installations, they are so abnormal but fit in their environments so well. I recently did a class installation where we made human tape sculptures. It was eerie just like Jenkins sculptures. Be sure to check out more of his amazing work here.

Happy Trails to You

Yesterday I took a hike, literally.

At around 8am me and my sister decided to go on a hike. Hiking is a very popular activity in the city that I live in due to the amazing mountains and canyons that surround us. The hike that we did (and a favorite of mine) is referred to as the 7 falls hike. Mainly, because at the end of it you are greeted with seven small scale waterfalls that are really fun to splash around in. Unfortunately, it hasn't rained in awhile so the waterfalls where on the drier side of things. Still a beautiful moderate hike. I believe it is about 8 miles total and it takes about two hours to get in the canyon and two to get out.

P.S. The saguaros are blooming :]

Always a Bridesmaid

So, for my sister's birthday this weekend we went and saw Bridesmaids Starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCartney, etc, etc.

The Verdict? LOVED IT. It was definitively one of the funniest movies I have seen in a while. The plot goes something like Kristen Wiig plays the main character as a girl who is chosen to be her best friend's maid of honor when her life is kind of spiraling. Hilarity ensues. When I first heard of this movie a year ago I was down right giddy. Why you may ask? because Paul Feig and Judd Apatow are the dream team behind this movie. The same duo behind one of my all time favorite T.V. shows Freaks and Geeks. PLUS I am huge Feig fan. I have already read his first book and I plan on reading his second this summer.

The bottom line? You should see it. Come on, heart and hilarity what more could you want?

Camera Limbo

Sorry for the lack of images on here. I am currently in the process of acquiring a new camera so once I get that glorious baby you can bet on seeing a lot more of my own photos.

The above image was found through tumblr and is by the photographer Tim Melideo of his camera collection. Such a cool way to display old cameras that would probably just be collecting dust. Be sure to check out his Flickr page here.

Sunday Inspiration,,Cornelia Parker

Installation art is one of my favorite types of art so expect to see a lot of it on here.

Today's inspiration comes from an artist named Cornelia Parker, who is known for her installations. I saw one of her works in the Phoenix Art Museum and let me say her works are simply beautiful.

Take a look:

P.S. The first image is the one that I have seen in real life.

Summer Reading List

Reading is by far the thing that I miss the most during the school semester. I'm going to take Espanol over the summer but I'm still going to try to knock out a few books that I have been meaning to read.

So here is two that are on my list:

The Stand by Stephen King. Confession: I have never before read a Stephen King novel before. I have been told that this one is (arguably) his best. I have such a love/hate relationship with post-apocalyptic stories but I want to read it anyway.

Just Don't Fall by Josh Sundquist. This is about Sundquist's journey from losing a leg at the age of nine due to cancer to becoming an Olympic skier.  Josh is a motivational speaker turned YouTuber. Josh really funny and extremely charismatic. Check out his YouTube channel here.

Randomly Deleted?

So blogger decided to delete this blog without my consent. I have no clue what happened but it was completely gone today. Granted I only had two posts but still. So, I just re-made the entire thing and I am hoping it doesn't happen again!
